Out of all the operating systems that Microsoft has developed, Windows XP has been with us for the longest amount of time (partly because Vista was such a flop when it came out that users refused to switch to it, some even downgraded to XP). Remember that first time you booted up your computer and XP worked like a charm? It was fast, and speedy, and made you smile?

Yeah, those times soon pass because as time moves on, the Windows operating systems have a tendency to get a bit sluggish. To get things running swiftly again you need a specialized piece of software that will tune XP up. You could do this manually, but only if you are an advanced computer user – otherwise, you are better off using a specialized piece of software.

WinXP Manager is such a specialized piece of software. This Yamicsoft-developed piece of software that weighs in at about 6MB, will help you tweak the settings of the Windows XP operating system so that its startup and shutdown times decrease and so that its overall performance gets a speed boost.

WinXP Manager comes with a total of 7 features. Let’s take a quick look at each:

  1. Information – provides detailed information on all your hardware, running processes, threads, and more.
  2. Optimizer – options to improve startup times as well as shutdown times, and other various options to make XP run faster.
  3. Cleaner – locate and eliminate files that unnecessarily take up space on your hard disk.
  4. Customization – edit context menus, select which programs are loaded at startup, customize menus, system icons, and more.
  5. Security – encrypt files, securely delete files, specify which applications can and which cannot be launched, and other security-oriented tweaks.
  6. Network – options to make your internet connection faster.
  7. Miscellaneous utilities – a bunch of Windows utilities.

Everything this piece of software can do is presented in a compact interface that you should not have a problem with. On top of that, the initial optimization process goes through a wizard setup, so you really shouldn’t have any problems using WinXP Manager.

We could only find some minor drawbacks while testing WinXP Manager. What we did find out is that it is a properly powerful tool to be used in tweaking and optimizing the Windows XP operating system.

Pros

  • Great for novice computer users
  • Numerous customization options
  • Useful tool tips

Cons

  • Free to use only during the 15-day trial period
  • Nag screen
